New York painting by David Farren

British art: artist David Farren

British art: artist David Farren

The gallery has just received another wonderful painting from British Artist David Farren

David uses expressive brushwork and colour to represent the energy and movement of the urban landscape, providing a snapshot of everyday life. His aim is to capture the ambience and individuality of cities from a street level, concentrating on the people as they go about their daily lives.

Farren just loves New York of which he says: “Since visiting New York for the first time in 2000, I have found a real passion for depicting urban day-to-day scenes and trying to capture the energy and drama of city life. I was overwhelmed by its scale and vibrancy and have returned several times since to express the different moods of the city in paint. I also have a great fondness for European cities with their mixture of old and new architecture. I like to concentrate on the people as they go about their everyday business and try to capture moments of everyday life.”

Today’s post is ‘Manhattan Crossing’ and it demonstrates the passion and observational skills which David Farren has for New York. The paintings is an oil measuring 16 x 39 inches.

Today we feature a painting by British Artist Susan Brown

‘Street Life, New York’ will be showing at our upcoming art exhibition in starting 6 September. Susan Brown’s background in three-dimensional design is evident in her studies of architecture and cityscape. ‘Street Life, New York’ shows the characteristic high-rise buildings of New York City. The shadow of the tall buildings is contrasted with bright splashes of colour worn by pedestrians.

Susan Brown contemporary paintings are bold and striking . Her architectural studies explore the rhythm and movement within buildings and interiors and her abstract paintings are inspired by still life subjects and landscapes, focusing on texture and pattern.

The character of the old buildings are recorded with a lightness of touch characteristic of Brown’s style. The buildings almost have a life of their own in this atmospheric scene.
