Scottish art – Jacqueline Orr

'Montjoi' by Scottish artist Jacqueline Orr

'Montjoi' by Scottish artist Jacqueline Orr

We have so many wonderful artists to choose from who are showing in the current Scottish art show. Today we are highlighting the work of a really talented artist Jacqueline Orr

Jacqueline Orr was born in 1961 and studied at Glasgow School of Art. Her tutors included artists John Cunningham, Jack Knox, Barbara Rae and James Robertson

Jacqueline Orr paintings are bursting with colour and vitality. The Scottish colourist style and hint at abstraction is evident in her paintings. A characteristic style that incorporates the broad-brush technique familiar to Scottish collectors with a bold sense of colour, creating convincingly solid forms from blocks of solid rich colour. Orr’s fluid brush strokes are tremendously effective in the paintings of French landscapes scenes where she captures the light and shade so successfully. She is equally successful in producing paintings of still life subjects

Jacqueline Orr is deservedly the recipient of numerous art awards including: Alexander Graham Munro 2008 Award, Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour; Armour Art Award, Royal Glasgow Institute Of The Fine Arts and Armour Prize, Glasgow School of Art. In 2009 she was winner of the Joe Hargan Award at the Paisley Art Institute 2009
