Etchings from Karolina Larusdottir

Etchings from Karolina Larusdottir

Red Rag has shown the paintings of artist Karolina Larusdottir for many years. Now the gallery is promoting collectible etchings with fifteen Karolina Larusdottir Limited Edition Prints added to the Red Rag range.

Karolina Larudottir studied contemporary art at the Ruskin School of Art in Oxford between1965 to 1967. In 1986 she was elected a member of the Royal Society of Painter–Printmakers in 1996. Larusdottir’s unique vision of both her Icelandic homeland and England have won her a deservedly high reputation in the fields of contemporary British art.

In many paintings and etchings Karolina Larusdottir creates a world of her own, with imaginary people in strange situations, often floating, carrying rainbows or being visited by angels. Often Karolina’s contemporary art pieces contain a wry humour that enhances the surreal and timeless qualities she creates when dealing with her favourite subject – people.

Karolina Larusdotir successes include many solo and mixed art shows at prestigious exhibitions of modern art in Britain, Europe, Africa and USA. In 1993 and again in 1997 the Royal Academy used her paintings to advertise the Summer exhibition. She is the recipient of many art prizes and her art works appear in many private and corporate art collections, including The Vatican, Rome and HRH Queen Elizabeth.

Limited Edition Prints

Limited Edition Print 'Morris and Kitty' by Paul Robinson

This week we have been featuring British artists who have their art work published as Limited Edition Prints . Limited Edition Prints have become increasingly popular. A major factor in the growth of limited edition prints has been the development of Giclee technology.

The word Giclée (pronounced zhee-klay) comes from the French “le gicleur” meaning “nozzle”. It is most probably derived from the French verb gicler meaning to squirt or spray. In modern British art usage it refers to refers to art made by the spray of ink from a very highly specialised large format inkjet which are used to create art prints and limited edition prints. The majority of Red Rag Gallery limited edition prints are giclee art prints.

Today’s featured Limited Edition Print artist is Paul Robinson . Robinson was born in Penrith, Cumbria in 1959. He studied Fine Art at Carlisle College of Art.

Paul Robinson paints in a distinctive naive style. Inspiration for his work comes from the East Anglian landscape with great expanse of sea and sky and the people who are found in the area. Titles in Robinson’s limited edition print series include: French Lieutenant’s Aunty; Narcissus; Lady With Dog and Newspaper and Weekenders

Paul Robinson limited edition prints are available from the Red Rag Bath Art Gallery. For further details email the gallery or

British art: artist Richard Adams

'The Summer Wore On' by Richard Adams

'The Summer Wore On' by Richard Adams

Today we feature British Artist Richard Adams

Richard Adams was born in Hampshire in 1960. He received a BA Hons in Graphic Design at Leicester Polytechnic. Richard’s childhood was spent amidst the British countryside in the south Cotswolds. The outstanding Cotswold landscape has had a strong and lasting influence on his art work with the soft landscape and architectural vernacular often inspiring and influencing his paintings.

In his art work Richard Adams creates a dream world often adding ‘odd’ people that seem to float above the ground and seldom stand upright. Full of humour Richard Adams paintings and prints are beautifully drawn and highly imaginative.

All Richard’s paintings are produced using chalk pastel. They are then fixed and soaked in a special varnish that leaves an impervious surface. His art works are also available as Giclee Limited Edition Prints

Today’s featured image is a Limited Edition Print ’The Summer Wore On’ is an imaginative and idealised portrayal of a hay-making party. As with all Richard Adams art works what is most striking is the wealth of detail and the narrative that the scene creates. Set against a background of thatched cottages and a church we see a picnic, running dogs, kissing couples and then above the church angels circle watching over the scene and lending it a dreamlike quality.
