Art Prints by David Inshaw

David Inshaw 'Badminton Game'

Art print from Global Art Prints

David Inshaw paints, etches and draws. He is one of Britain’s leading contemporary artists and studied painting at the Beckenham School of Art from 1959 to 1963 followed by three years at the Royal Academy Schools in London. In 1964 was awarded a French Government Scholarship to study and live in Paris for six months. He received a fellowship in art at Trinity College, Cambridge and since 1977 has worked full time as a painte. During the 1970s Inshaw was a member of the Brotherhood of Ruralists exhibiting alongside Peter Blake and Graham Ovenden. He left the group in 1983.

David Inshaw stimulus has always been people and places. Reading Thomas Hardy had a decisive impact on the direction of his paintings, and led to a series of ambitious landscape compositions based on the countryside in Wiltshire, England. Global Art Prints have a portfolio of Inshaw’s limited edition prints and art prints including his iconic Badminton Game which was originally titled after a poem by Thomas Hardy and is one of a number limited edition prints influenced by the landscape of Wiltshire. Inshaw has written ‘my main aim was to produce a picture that held a moment in time, but unlike a photograph, which only records an event. I thought a painting could give a more universal, deeper meaning to that moment by composing one instant from lots of different unrelated moments.’ He has written of ‘the mystery and wonder I felt all around me in this magic place’.

A book on life and work of David Inshaw titled: ‘David Inshaw: Between Fantasy and Reality’ has been written by Andrew Lambirth and is published by Tabrett’s Publishers

Scottish art: new artist at Red Rag Gallery

Stephanie Rew 'Scarlet Kimono'

Red Rag have added the art works of Stephanie Rew who is a highly successful Scottish artist to the portfolio of contemporary artists.

Stephanie Rew was raised in the historic city of Edinburgh, Scotland leaving for Dundee in 1994 to study at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art. She first became interested in drawing and painting at an early age, showing ability beyond her years.

Her primary subject matter is the female figure. Always painted with a sense of ambiguity, faces half hidden with the human form often just emerging from the darkness. The nude was a predominant motif to her work and has developed using drapery and pattern in combination with the figure. Tone and form as well as strong light and colour is what inspires her. Recently she has been concentrating on the juxtaposition of tonality and texture whilst keeping a private, reflective mood with the work. Recently she has returned to her interest in dance and has been working with an aerial dancer in Edinburgh, striving to capture in oil paint, the elegance and strength to be found in this type of dance.

Stephanie Rew’s paintings are heavily influenced by the Baroque style of oil painting and she combines Old Masters techniques with those of her own. Rew’s use of glazes is important to the finished art work creating an inner glow to each oil painting. Caravaggio’s trademark use of chiaroscuro and strong colour created by glazing techniques has inspired Stephanie Rew’s paintings for the last decade. Her paintings are promoted at Red Rag’s Bath Art Gallery in Brock Street.
