New artist at Red Rag Bath Gallery

David Barnes - Blue Door

Red Rag has just introduced the paintings of David Barnes at the Bath art gallery in Brock Street.

David Barnes was born in Africa and has become a full time artist relatively recently after a career in the commercial world. He qualified as a chartered accountant and spent most of his working life in professional practice. In his forties David took an Open University degree in history and economics. He then worked for several years as a tutor for the Open University, running seminars in the UK, Europe and Africa on financial management on the MBA programme.

Although David Barnes enjoyed art at school and has been an art collector for many years, it was not until he retired from the Educational world in 2006 that he began to paint seriously. His paintings are influenced by Welsh artists Sir Kyffin Williams, Gwilym Prichard and Wynne Jenkins.

David Barnes paintings are highly textural. He uses a palette knife, painting in oils and using a thick impasto technique to produce bold strokes that add strength and texture to his paintings, giving it a sculptured feel. Inspiration for much of David’s art work comes from the mountains of Snowdonia and the coastline of north Wales and Anglesey.

Paintings by David Barnes are available from Red Rag Bath Modern Art Gallery
