The Art of Dog Racing

'The Whippet Challenge' by John Lines

'The Whippet Challenge' by John Lines

Right now at Red Rag we are working on a new solo art exhibition for British artist John Lines. John is a master at finding and recording the humour and character of the British nation. His exhibition takes place in June

The John Lines art exhibition will feature scenes of the British countryside and urban landscapes. Some of these latest paintings are being produced and offered for sale from the Red Rag Limited Edition Prints range. Here is the link to John Lines Limited Edition Prints. Featured above is one of the new limited edition prints. It is titled ‘The Whippet Challenge’.

’The Whippet Challenge’ looks like the dog race of the season. Dog trainers and spectators are under starters orders and the race is set against a backdrop of old tin roofed sheds, broken fencing and a grey British sky

Contemporary British Art from artist David Farren

Reflections of Bath by David Farren

Reflections of Bath by David Farren

David Farren is one of the most promising young figurative British artists. His contemporary paintings of urban day to day scenes are a real pleasure to show in the gallery and a great example of contemporary British Art. We were therefore delighted to hear from David that new paintings are on their way to us at Red Rag Gallery

David Farren uses expressive brushwork and colour to represent the energy and movement of the urban landscape, providing a snapshot of everyday life. His aim is to capture the ambience and individuality of some of the world’s most exciting cities from a street level, concentrating on the people as they go about their daily lives

The latest paintings from David will include British scenes of the world heritage city – Bath. Other paintings include scenes of New York – a city David loves for its vibrancy and scale. A further post will be uploaded when the paintings are delivered

Featured Irish artist – Manus Walsh

Painting by Irish artist Manus Walsh

Painting by Irish artist Manus Walsh

Each month at Red Rag we select and highlight an Irish artist. The April featured Irish artist is Manus Walsh

Manus Walsh has worked as an artist for more than 40 years and has exhibited not only in Irish galleries but also in Chile, Spain, Germany and now the UK. Born in Dublin, grandson to author Maurice Walsh and Irish language writer Sean O’Kiersey, he has carved his own niche in the visual arts. Manus Walsh lives in the West of Ireland

The Irish west coast is an area that has greatly influenced Manus art works. His exploration of this area has produced a wonderful series of stratified landscapes, all horizontal lines, full of ghosts, still, calm, virtually devoid of any colour, including some remarkable nocturnal views. Over the last 20 years Manus has also spent time in Spain, Cuba, Chile, France, Germany and Italy. This has brought an infusion of colour and rhythm to his paintings; seen in the graceful shapes and strong outlines of Picassoesque musicians, the hustle and bustle of Valparaiso, or the noonday heat of a Spanish village

It is not easy to label Manus Walsh. His paintings have been described as cubist, abstract, impressionist, surreal, naturalistic and romantic. Manus Walsh works in stained glass, enamel, oils, pastels, gouache, chalk, collage, graphics- what ever comes to hand it seems! As a result, his career has been characterised by an imaginative diversity of subject and technique, an ever-present willingness to experiment with the new or re-visit old ideas

The diversity of Joe Hargan paintings is remarkable. However Hargan’s paintings are immediately recognisable and follow the rich tradition of vibrant, bold colourist Scottish paintings. Welcome to the Red Rag online blog

Painting by Scottish Artist - David Schofield

Painting by Scottish Artist - David Schofield

Welcome to the official Red Rag website.

The web name Red Rag has been very much in the UK news recently relating to a political scandal – but the Red Rag site is better known for contemporary British Art and that is the way we want to keep it! Having said that our web usage soared with all the political intrigue stories so hopefully it will convert into sales of our artist’s work

Rather than political issues we have been busy organising for our next art exhibition. It features two very talented Scottish artists – artists Louis McNally and  David Schofield. They have produced some stunning art works for the upcoming show.

David Schofield is a surrealist painter and Louis McNally a specialist in capturing Scottish Landscapes.  Soon their new paintings will be uploaded onto the Red Rag website – another post will let you know exactly when.
